Guaranteed Ride Home

Hesitant to carpool, vanpool, use transit, bike or walk to work for fear of being stranded in the event of an emergency? Thanks to the Guaranteed Ride Home program, your worries are over!

Changes to the regional Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) program were effective February 1, 2008. This highly successful program helps commuters who use commute alternatives get home or back to their cars in the case of an event such as unscheduled overtime, illness at work or an immediate family member’s illness requiring you or your commuting partner to leave work unexpectedly.

To provide commuters with the best service possible, the Atlanta Regional Commission, which administers the GRH program, is making some significant changes to streamline the GRH process:

  • Company, TMA and on-site administrators will no longer be required for participation.
  • All metro Atlanta commuters now have one number to call to arrange their rides. Once you are eligible and need to use the service, simply contact the Atlanta Regional Commission at 1-87-RIDEFIND (1-877-433-3463) to arrange a ride and obtain an authorization code to give to the ride provider.
  • Eligible commuters now must complete and sign a GRH Application and Agreement each year to enroll and participate in the in the program. This includes all commuters who were registered in the GRH system prior to February 1, 2008.

Valid emergencies include:

  • You or an immediate family member suffers an illness during the workday.
  • A supervisor requires you to work unscheduled overtime.
  • A serious problem arises at your child's school or daycare.
  • Your carpool or vanpool driver must leave work due to any of the above reasons.
